Surge Electrical Engineering has completed a substantial project at 32 Cathedral Road, Cardiff.
The building, located on the corner of Cathedral Road and Sophia Close, which leads to the world-famous Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground, was previously the head office of Wilmott Dixon.
However, since work commenced on the property in the spring of 2022, it has since been transformed into a mix of modern residential living comprising both houses and apartments.
Project Overview
The extensive project entailed a complete refurbishment of the existing building into four houses and the construction of an additional 13 modern apartments.
By August of 2023, the houses had been sold, and the apartments were in the final stages of completion and were placed on the market for private sale.
Execution and Scope
The scope of work for Surge included a full mechanical and electrical (M&E) installation. This incorporated the installation of power, lighting, ventilation systems, hot and cold water systems using electric cylinders, a state-of-the-art fire safety system and a secure door access system.
Director Ryan Parry noted, “This project at 32 Cathedral Road was significant for us. Turning an old office building into a series of modern living spaces was a complex task. The team worked diligently to maintain the structure’s essence while adding modern features, and the positive relationship we had with the primary contractor significantly contributed to the project’s success.”
Impact
The redevelopment of 32 Cathedral Road into a series of 2,3 and 4-bedroom properties stands as a representation of Surge Electrical Engineering’s capability to deliver reliable and modern mechanical and electrical solutions for the residential property sector.
Director Dale Phillips added, “32 Cathedral Road showcases our commitment to quality and reliability. Handling the transition from offices to homes was not only rewarding but also allowed our team to demonstrate their ability to complete a complex project on time and on budget.”
